What Is Glaucoma
Glaucoma, the ‘silent blinding disease’, is a serious eye condition defined by the gradual deterioration of the optic nerveโa crucial conduit responsible for sending visual information from the eye to the brain. Open-angle glaucoma, the most common type, develops slowly and without pain, leading to a gradual loss of peripheral vision, initially without noticeable symptoms. If left untreated, glaucoma can eventually cause irreversible blindness. Glaucoma has multiple causes but remains effectively managed by lowering and controlling eye pressure inside of the eye. Timely eye check-ups and early detection are crucial in effectively managing glaucoma, preserving valuable eyesight, and preventing blindness.
Glaucoma exams and treatments
At our optometrist’s office, we employ various methods to diagnose and treat glaucoma effectively. Through Ultrasound imaging, we capture detailed images of the optic nerve and macula, enabling precise evaluation of neural tissue entering the optic nerve. We conduct Visual field tests to assess your peripheral vision. Utilizing retinal photos and pachymetry, we can identify potential risks associated with glaucoma. In addition, we prescribe appropriate medications to manage the condition. Trust our expertise in glaucoma care to safeguard your vision and provide tailored treatment options.
